***** MENTAL/SPIRITUAL *****

[this is from a post i sent to doctor andrew weil's '8 weeks to better health' emailers group in 1997]

while doing t'ai chi last saturday i had another *epiphany* of sorts and
it went like this: one of the reasons i enjoy t'ai chi SO much (and there
are more than a few reasons to enjoy it) is because it is an art that,
as all art, develops over a lifetime of experience and involvement with
it...that is to say...it is on a CONTINUUM with no 'perfected state'
attainable by the practitioner...unlike most of what humans do in their
lives, setting immediate short-term goals, reaching them, then looking
around for their NEXT attainment, with something like t'ai chi, evolving
toward our NATURAL harmony where NO FINAL ATTAINMENT, no
'perfected state', can really be had, the joy of learning is ENDLESS...and
because of this i find it a wonderfull, wonder-filled experience...MY
GROWTH WILL NEVER CEASE!! ...... perhaps humankind are (IMHO) in
such a materialistic/spritually-dysfunctional quagmire presently
precisely because the only thing most of us know today is how to set
material, short-term goals, 'hypnotized' by an illusory 'perfected state',
only to find a kind of spirit-harmony emptiness once the short-term has
been achieved...this problem folks face seeking a 'perfected state'
crosses over into all facets of their lives, including, as we have read
here in the digest, their 'health harmony'...i also, as others have, urge
all of you fine folks to 'ease up' on yourselves (truly only YOU can
prevent DIS-EASE) and just attach onto the continuum of life (of health,
more specifically, in this case), seeking not the 'perfected state'...the
continuum is already *perfect*...and so are YOU...........good health to all.
